During the regular monthly meeting of the Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board Monday evening, fire chief Mickey Scott made a plea to residents help clear fire hydrants of snow.
“We will be removing snow from around the fire hydrants in the coming weeks in order to have the ability to quickly access (them) during an emergency,” he said. “We would like to ask residents who have a fire hydrant located nearby their residence to assist us in removing the snow from around (it), if possible.
“(To) those assisting us in the snow removal … be very careful and don’t overexert (your)selves or risk injury due to the cold weather. We do not want anyone getting hurt.”
Also, in his fire territory activity and financial report, Scott reported in January the fire territory responded to 17 fire calls and 98 EMS calls. The January EMS run total is the highest in five years.
The addition and renovation to Fire Station 1 is ongoing, said Scott. Second floor decking has been installed, interior and exterior walls have been set, exhaust piping for the furnace has been relocated, new natural gas lines have been installed, the north stairway and hose tower have been blocked in and the trusses have been set.
Township trustee Barb Griffith reported January expenses were on target for the township. Board member Kim Cates asked to table discussion in regards to township’s cemetery renovations and mowing to next month.
The Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at Fire Station 2 in Syracuse.
