After successfully robbing five different banking institutions in both Michigan and Indiana, detectives with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Allegan County Sheriff’s Department have arrested the Indiana man responsible through the help of special agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Dennis Carl Love, 59, of South Bend, who had allegedly been robbing banks since the summer, was captured on Dec. 27. According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, the arrest took place during a traffic stop after Love allegedly attempted to rob a PNC bank in Martin, Mich.
According to FBI agents, Allegan County Sheriff’s Department in Michigan arrested Love while driving the originally described “get-away-vehicle”, a 1997 silver Ford Escort station wagon.
After receiving consent to search Love’s home in South Bend, officials from the FBI discovered additional evidence that implicated him in with the five robberies. Police also discovered that Love had conducted each of his five successful bank robberies, and his two attempted robberies, while in possession of a handgun –though he never displayed the weapon.

KCSD detectives and Kosciusko County Prosecutor Dan Hampton are currently working with Michigan and federal officials to also place additional charges for the robbery of the Leesburg branch of the Farmers State Bank on July 12 of this year (see related). F.B.I. agents are currently seeking an indictment on federal charges, at which point Love will be transferred into federal custody in Grand Rapids, Mich (see related).
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office advises that the defendant’s charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
