Matters were fairly open and shut at the April meeting of the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission’s Kosciusko County Board hearing on April 3. Four businesses were slated to renew their alcohol permits, and all of the renewals were approved.
Aloha on Detroit Street, Meijer on Lake City Highway, Stacy’s Sports Inn in Leesburg and Marsh Drugs on Buffalo Street were renewing their licenses to sell beer, wine and liquor. Stacy’s, Meijer and Aloha were all approved with a single motion.
Marsh Drugs, however, failed an alcohol sting on Aug. 26 when a cashier failed to check ID and sold liquor to a minor. Marsh’s store manager, Zach Helton, came before the board to seek approval.
There was some confusion as to whether or not the appropriate fines had been paid and the case was still pending. A phone call was made, and it was determined that Marsh had paid its $1,000 fine and the case was no longer pending.
Marsh was granted its renewal. The board, however, did stress to Helton the importance of making sure cashiers were properly trained on selling alcohol and always checked IDs.
