Pierceton firefighters responded to a report of an electrical fire at 204 W. Walnut St., at about 11:45 a.m. today. Although a full assist from Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory was called for, the fire was under control within minutes.
According to county records, the home is owned by Donald and Linda Chilson of Reed
City, Mich. The only occupant of the home, a female, told firefighters she heard a pop shortly before smelling smoke.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the basement of the home and also reported standing water in the basement. According to PTFD Chief Matt Brubaker, heavy rains caused the basement to flooded which shorted out the water heat and furnace resulting in the fire.
