Up to 9 inches of snow is expected to dump over Kosciusko and surrounding counties overnight tonight which has prompted the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana to update a storm watch to a Winter Storm Warning. The warning goes into effect at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Heavy snow is expected late tonight and into Wednesday. Rain will begin falling first, then transition to snow during the early morning hours. Sleet is also expected prior to the snow. Snowfall totals are predicted to fall at a rate of 1 inch per hour and will likely leave between 5 and 9 inches of snow before tapering off late tomorrow afternoon. The warning will expire at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
North winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph will create areas of blowing and drifting snow, resulting in hazardous travel conditions tomorrow. Strong winds may also cause tree branches to be blown down and could result in power outages.
Counties in the warning are Kosciusko, Noble, DeKalb, Pulaski, Fulton, Marshall, Whitley, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Whitley, Noble, Allen, White, Cass, Miami, Wabash and Huntington in Indiana.
