The Association of Indiana Counties and Star Financial Bank have named a local third grader as the National County Government Week essay contest winner for the AICs Northeast District.
Ty Brooks’ essay was chosen over entries from other third graders across the district. Brooks, a student at Milford Elementary School, received $100 for winning the contest. One winner was chosen in each of the AICs six districts.

This year’s theme was Counties Moving America Forward: The Keys Are Transportation and Infrastructure. Essays were judged on how well students communicated the countys role in building and maintaining infrastructure such as roads, bridges and drainage projects.
Brooks was awarded the prize earlier this month during the AIC Northeast District Meeting in Allen County. The meeting also included a synopsis of the 2015 Indiana General Assembly by AIC legislative staff.
