An area couple made an interesting discovery Monday when they went mushroom hunting.
Julie Owens and her husband, Del, found a morel mushroom on the Wabash/Kosciusko County line. The mushroom is 9 inches tall and 15 inches in diameter according to Owens.
Julie Owens said, “This is just so much fun. It’s like a treasure of gold at the end of the rainbow.”
Owens said she has no plans yet on what to do with the mushroom.
According to Field and Stream, morel mushrooms are typically found in the spring. Morels are so valuable that can sell for more than $20 a pound in grocery stores.
