This shopper takes a look at a bowl that caught her eye from the hundreds of choices available.
Around 400 ceramic, hand glazed and painted bowls are waiting to be claimed at the second annual Empty Bowls campaign, sponsored by students at Grace College. This community grass-roots event started at 11 a.m. today and will continue until 2 p.m.
The event is being held at the Village of Winona’s pavilion.
A suggested donation of $20 for adults and $5 for kids, or whatever you can contribute, will provide participants a choice of one hand made bowl of their choice and a bowl of soup served in a separate container and a bottle of water. There is no set cost for the bowls.
Music is being supplied by area musicians and all proceeds raised wiill pay for the cost of the event and go to local charities and food pantries.
Grace College students are serving a choice of potato, vegetable, chicken and noodle and tomato bisque. Rave revues on the soups were heard by the nearly shoppers.
The bowls were made by the art integration class, whose members have spent weeks making the bowls. The event takes on the fight against hunger and awareness within Kosciusko County.
Sam Erwin, student and organizer, the event allows students at Grace, as well as local elementary schools, to partner with community organizations and businesses to create a difference and fight hunger within the county. Last year over $5,000 was raised by the project to support area charities.
