To kick-start physical activity and learning now and throughout the summer, on Saturday, April 25, the Kosciusko Community YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day, with a free community event for kids and families.  The YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, features vendors that will connect families with resources on overall child health and safety and a Fun Run to engage kids in being active.

The Kosciusko Community YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day takes place at the Parkview Warsaw YMCA from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be several community organizations in the Multi-Purpose Room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. including Martins, Parkview Health, the Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS, Joe’s Kids, the Library, Bowen Center, Indiana Wellness Consultants, and White’s Residential and Family Services to educate and assist families in making healthy and safe choices. The Y will also have information about upcoming programs, classes, and summer sports camps that will keep kids active over the summer.

There will be a One Mile Fun Run for kids up to age 14 at noon. Registration forms are available at the Y and online at www.kcymca.org. Race day registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The first 50 kids to register will receive a t-shirt. Every participant will receive a medal. Top 10 finishers in the boy and girl divisions will receive a water bottle. There will also be open swim from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children 6 and under must have an adult in the water with them and those 7-11 must be supervised by a parent or guardian in the pool area.

Healthy Kids Day is free and open to all families. Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent or guardian in the facility. For more information, contact Tonya Douglass at (574) 269-9622 or see the Y’s website at www.kcymca.org. April 25 is also a free admission day for the whole community from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Y is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. All the efforts and offerings of the Kosciusko Community YMCA are guided by the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Every day, the Y works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. In 2014, the Kosciusko Community YMCA provided $151,560 in financial assistance to make sure that happens.
