UPDATE: Andrea Fast, marketing specialist with Frontier Central Region, reports phone service was disrupted at approximately 9 a.m. this morning when an excavator hit a fiver line feeding Atwood, Millwood, Bourbon, Mentone and Yellow Creek.
According to Fast, the excavation company did not call “Call Before You Dig” to have the underground lines marked.
Reportedly only toll calls were restricted and local calls in the immediate area are possible. The system is expected to be back up by 6:30 p.m.
An apparent problem with the Frontier phone service in the Mentone and Bourbon exchanges is disrupting communications to and from those communities. The problem reportedly began this morning.
Attempts are being made to contact officials with the Central Region office in Fort Wayne.
There is good news, however, for those needing emergency assistance.The 911 system is still working. Should it be necessary to contact the police, individuals in Mentone can contact the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department at (574) 267-5667.
