The National Weather Service has placed much of northern Indiana, southern Michigan and northwestern Ohio under winter weather alerts, meaning accumulating snow and bitter cold temperatures for the next several days.

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 7 a.m. Monday and a Wind Chill Watch will go into effect from Monday morning through Wednesday afternoon.

According to the NWS, snow will continue across the area this morning with total accumulations of 2 inches to 4 inches by early afternoon. Blowing and drifting will become significant later today and this evening as winds escalate.

Wind chills are expected to plummet tonight falling to near 25 below zero by morning and to 35 below zero by Tuesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. If you must travel, be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.

For the latest travel advisories by county, see the Indiana Department of Homeland Security map HERE. For current road conditions, consult the Indiana State Police map HERE.

Indiana counties affected by the alerts are Kosciusko, La Porte, St. Joseph, Elkhart,  Lagrange, Steuben, Noble, De Kalb, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, Whitley, Allen, White, Cass, Miami, Wabash, Huntington, Wells, Adams, Grant, Blackford and Jay.

Michigan counties affected are Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Branch and Hillsdale. In Ohio the counties are Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Allen.
