You may want to plan to head to bed a little earlier this weekend. At 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, clocks will spring forward by an hour in observance of the beginning of daylight saving time in the area. This change means longer days during the summer months.
Though smartphones with automatic date and time settings will adjust, analog clocks will need to be set forward by an hour manually (a change that is suggested to be made before going to bed on Saturday evening).
It is also a good time to replace batteries in your emergency alert radios and smoke alarms. Testing these devices is also suggested.
Daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November each year.
