Travel conditions in most area counties, including Kosciusko, are treacherous and authorities are urging travels to stay off the roads, except for emergencies.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Tom Chamberlin said poor road conditions have resulted in a fatal on U.S. 30 at Fir Road. County Plows are out clearing roads, but winds are causing the roads to quickly drift shut.
Wind chills and cold temps will continue to cause conditions to deteriorate into the evening hours. If you do choose to travel, wear multiple layers, make sure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel, let someone know where you are going and check in when you get there and take a cell phone and extra blankets with you. If you do get stuck, call for help immediately.
Cold temperatures can cause frostbite and hypothermia very quickly. Check on elderly neighbors and any at risk people.
