In what was a brief meeting Wednesday night, the Silver Lake Town Council voted to switch the dental coverage for town employees from previous carrier PHP to Principal. Two plans were examined before making the decision.

The plan from Principal carried an annual rate of $240.93, while a second option from Ameritas carried a rate of $242.88. “If you sit there and compare the two, Principal is a little bit cheaper and it looks like better coverage,” stated board member Phil Shalley. The board members also voted unanimously to add an option, at a cost of an additional $7 per month, to include vision coverage in the plan.

The board unanimously approved a resolution that changes the town retirement contribution method from one annual deposit of 1 percent of the salary to two annual deposits of .5 percent of the salary.

John Conley of the Silver Lake Fire Deparment detailed that the department had responded to five calls since the last meeting. He also informed those present that the department had received the grant for the Helo-pad remote switch and had installed it at the station.

Conley mentioned the June 28 golf outing that will be hosted by the department. He announced that those wishing to sponsor the event can do so by paying $100 to sponsor a hole, or $250 to sponsor a competing team.

Conley also noted that there will now be four Park Hopper passes to Disney World up for auction at the fire department’s pig roast and auction in May.

The claim docket totaling $137,455.94 was approved unanimously. The Silver Lake town hall will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, for Presidents Day. The next town council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11.
