Energy Star’s 2014 list of small cities with the highest number of Energy Star certified buildings had three northern Indiana towns within the top 10. Elkhart and Warsaw were among a few towns that tied for eighth place with six Energy Star certified buildings, while Plymouth made the list at the 10th place spot with four certified buildings.
A representative from Energy Star explained that many of the buildings who receive the certification choose to not be listed on Energy Star’s site, some of the past recipients are listed in the database.
In the Warsaw area, Kosciusko Community Hospital, Kohl’s, Sears, Staples and Owen’s on Center Street are a few buildings that have been awarded the certification in the past. It should be noted that none of the recipients ion 2014 chose to be listed on the Energy Star site.
Four of the six corporations owning Elkhart 2014 certified buildings elected to share the names of their companies: PNC Bank, JCPenney, Kroger and the Sears Holding Corporation.
The “small city” with the most amount of Energy Star certified buildings was Elizabethtown, Ky. with 53, While St. George, Utah was second with 36.
