The Jan. 8 meeting of the Kosciusko County Alcohol and Tobacco Commission saw the board approve the renewal, with violation, for Service Liquors East in Warsaw. The store drew a violation with three different charges from an incident in May of 2013. The three charges listed on the violation were sale to a minor, minor loitering and failure to check ID.

Jo Lynn and William Likens, both managers at the store, appeared on behalf of Service Liquors East. Jo Lynn expressed that despite the store’s slip-up, the incident was an exception to Service Liquor’s otherwise strong record, “I think we have done an excellent job on it.” She paused to knock her knuckles a few times on the wooden table in front of her before she continued, “We have been open 19 years and this is our first violation.” It was stated that the fine that the store was ordered to pay was the maximum amount of $1,000.

Other establishments that were granted renewals included Pak A Sak in Pierceton, the Elks Lodge on East Center Street in Warsaw and The Bowling Alley in Warsaw.

Board member Elim Smith shared with those present that, “We denied Stimmelators and then they went down to state and they approved it without listening to any of the minute taken at this meeting. I have asked April to contact them to see if we can get a representative up here to talk to us.” Board President Gordon Vanator added, “I can’t think the state commission is that uninterested in what the local board says.”
