The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow effective until 4 p.m. Friday.
Dangerous cold conditions are expected with wind chills 10 to 25 below zero Friday into Saturday morning.
According the the NWS, snow will develop late this afternoon or early this evening and will continue into tonight. The heaviest snow is expected this evening with snow tapering off overnight. The NWS projects accumulations to total between 1 to 3 inches.
In addition, The NWS notes strong southwest to west winds will cause significant blowing and drifting snow and will reduce visibilities late this afternoon through Friday morning.
Please note frost bite can occur in these conditions to any exposed skin within a matter of minutes. Roads which were previously cleared are expected to become snow covered and hazardous again by tonight continuing into Friday morning. Reduced visibilities are also expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
The NWS reminds that a wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds that will create dangerously low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken. A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas.
