The name of the 27-year-old individual killed in a two-vehicle accident has not yet been released by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, pending family notification.
According to the accident report, the accident occurred at 3:29 a.m. south of US 6, north of Milford, on SR 15.
The unidentified driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier was northbound when it drove left of center hitting the tandem axle of a southbound semi. The semi was driven by Paul Shirk, 51, Goshen.
Police report the Cavalier sustained heavy front end driver’s side damage. The semi sustained driver’s side trailer damage, in the rear tandem axle area.
The crash remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team and Elkhart County Coroner’s Office.
According to the Elkhart County Police Department, as of 7:00 a.m., SR 15 is now open to traffic.
