In what was a short Silver Lake Town Council meeting, the council members discussed such issues as the cost of liability insurance for 2015 and the possibility of codifying the town ordinance archives.
The quote the town received for having someone come in and compile all of the town ordinances was estimated to be somewhere between $2,000 and $2,600. The process was believed to make searching for a particular ordinance an easier process for the individuals of Silver Lake. Council President Chad Miner explained that, “They group things together and index them.” Councilman Phil Shalley expressed his concerns with paying so much, and stated, “I would just assume do a little studying on this and see if we can’t get it done for a little bit cheaper.” Shalley expressed his belief that there might not be a need to pay someone to complete the process if a few of the town employees were able to figure out how to do it themselves. Town attorney pointed out that, “A lot of towns have their ordinances so that they are searchable in case someone wants to search for a brushfire ordinance or something.” The discussion was ultimately tabled, for as Miner surmised, “I don’t think this is anything that needs any urgency.”
The board voted to stay with its same liability insurance provider, despite the fact that ther rate will be raised from $20,439, paid last year, to $20,470 for the upcoming year. The insurance will have the same level of coverage.
Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter mentioned that they had hit a brief snag in the grant process for a new car for his department, but that it had been cleared up and everything is in order (see related).
John Conley of the fire department stated that his unit had made seven runs since last month’s meeting, including three medical assists, two automobile accidents and two fires. He also said Joey McNeal had been named the town’s fireman of the year.
