As children begin putting pen to paper to put together their pleas to Santa and adults begin sending gifts to out-of-town relatives, area post offices must adjust to the chaos of December. Warsaw postmaster Kevin Baird says the city post office will maintain standard business hours for the month of December, but will now be making deliveries on Sundays up until Christmas.

According to Baird, “E-commerce, parcels ordered online is the biggest contributor to the increase.” Baird added that the post office plans to do some parcel delivery routes in order to deliver the influx of bulky mail. Warsaw Post Office employee Beth Jungels said that the employees’ experience and efficiency makes the winter busy season a walk in the park, “People ask how we handle all of the Santa mail and packages, well we have all the elves we need working hard here.”

The Winona Lake post office will need to make no such adjustments. The post office only has P.O. boxes, and thus will not have  any home delivery routes to alter.

According to the United States Postal Service, the following dates are suggested for mailing in order to ensure delivery by Dec. 24: Dec. 15 for Standard Post, Dec. 20 for First Class and Priority Mail and Dec. 23 for Priority Mail Express. For more information click here.

UPS recommends that those planning to use UPS Ground should mail items by Dec. 15. UPS 3 Day Select service will deliver items on Christmas Eve if they are mailed by Dec. 18. UPS Next Day Air is available to those who wait until the last minute, and will deliver items by Christmas Eve if they are mailed by Dec. 23. For more information click here.
