With Black Friday looming, and just a few weeks of Christmas shopping left, many folks are hunkering down for some serious holiday shopping.
The door buster deals at the big box stores are certainly enticing, however, consider small, local businesses for your holiday shopping. Shopping local doesn’t just put presents under the tree, it also helps foster community and stimulate the local economy – there’s even a holiday for it!
Small Business Saturday, held this year on Nov. 29, is a shopping holiday founded by American Express in 2010. The holiday encourages holiday shoppers to visit smaller local businesses. Some businesses will offer rebates or specials as part of Small Business Saturday. Additionally, the hashtag #smallbusinesssaturday was generated which can be used to highlight businesses and deals on social media.
Locally, Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce and Warsaw Community Development Corporation have assembled a list of participating businesses in Kosciusko County (see below). Many of them will offer discounts, activities and even a few door prizes on Small Business Saturday.
