Emergency personnel responded to an accident at 11:55 a.m. today on CR 11 and CR 46, just 2 miles north of Nappanee city limits, that resulted in injuries to a driver involved in the incident.
According to an accident report filed by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Joyce Palmateer, 39, of Walkerton, Ind., was traveling north in her Toyota Sienna on CR 11 approaching CR 46 when she failed to yield the right of way to David Colt, 41, of Rochester, Ind., who was traveling west in his Toyota Corolla on CR 46 approaching CR 11. The two vehicles collided and Colt’s vehicle was forced off the roadway to the north where he struck into a NIPSCO pole causing damage to the pole.
A rear seat passenger in Colt’s vehicle, identified as Joseph Yoder, 26, of Bremen, sustained a head injury, fractures to the legs and abdomen pain. Yoder was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries as a result of the collision. A citation was issued to Palmateer for failure to yield right of way.
