A neighbor, seeing smoke coming from a vacant mobile home, alerted authorities to a fire at approximately 5:25 p.m. this evening.

Burket Fire Department, assisted by Mentone Fire Department, responded to Kingfisher Drive at Palestine Lake, just off CR 600W.

The home, owned by Kevin Wright, was unoccupied when the fire broke out. However, electric and LP gas were still being supplied to the residence.

Kevin McSherry, Burket Fire Chief, reports when firefighters arrived smoke was pouring from one end of the home to the other. McSherry broke out a window to a middle bedroom, as an entry point for a fire hose to extinguish the fire.

The back of the mobile home and backside sustained extensive fire damage. Fire was also found underneath the home. Fire damage was contained to that area, with smoke damage to the remainder of the home.

The cause is still under investigation.

According to Wright, he had moved out of the home after it sustained summer storm damage to the trusses. He still had items inside the mobile home.

Mentone EMS also responded to the scene.
