The town of North Webster has issues with their existing wastewater system and improvements need to be made. Due to the age and condition of the wastewater system a number of the mechanical components are in need of replacement and rehabilitation. Residents of North Webster, whether property owners or residents are urged to fill out and return the surveys. They will be mailed soon.

The project will provide environmental relief by upgrading, repairing and improving selected lift stations, components and plant processes before failure occurs. In order to keep rates at an affordable cost to the users, North Webster is trying to apply to the Indiana Office of Community Affairs for a federally funded Community Development and Block Grant to make improvements to the wastewater system.

Without grant funds, North Webster will have to take on the entire debt to improve the system. The town is exhausting all efforts to help offset costs to residents and it needs residents assistance.

How can you help? Over the past month, surveys have been mailed to 540 randomly selected households. Out of 540, only 290 households completed and returned the survey.

The town needs a minimum of 109 completed surveys in order to determine if it qualifies for the grant. If North Webster is awarded a grant, it will offset costs to improve the wastewater system.

In the next few weeks, surveys will be mailed to additional homes that did not receive the original survey. No one locally ever sees the survey and your information is strictly confidential.

Every time the surveys are mailed, it costs the town’s taxpayers money for the material and postage, so your timely response is appreciated.

The CDBG Program is a federally funded grant program intended to benefit qualifying communities with various community development public assistance projects such as planning studies, improvements to community centers, wastewater, water, roads, bridges, etc. An income survey must be completed in order to determine if the town qualifies for grant funds.
