The 2014 Annual Forestry Field day, a multi-county event, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20 in Kosciusko County at the Gary Dillon property. It will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, with a program focused on traditional forestry management practices.
Featured speakers will include: Bruce Wakeland, consultant forester, speaking on Tree Planting and Thinning, using examples of work done on the woodland acres. Scott Fetters, US Fish and Wildlife, will talk about Wildlife Ponds and Habitat restoration work completed on the property. Mike Denman, consultant forester, will lead a discussion on Timber Harvesting, giving tips on conducting a successful harvest. Tim Eizinger, DNR District Forester, will share information on invasive woodland species with a focus on Bush Honeysuckle Control.
The property is located on the north side US 30, 2.5 miles east of Pierceton, Ind., and a quarter mile west of the Kosciusko/Whitley County line. Entrance to the event will be 2/3 mile east of the intersection of CR 900 E and CR 250 S.
