Michael Hullinger, 44, Syracuse, has been arrested and initially charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident causing serious bodily injury. Additional charges could be pending.

His charges stem from an early morning accident Saturday on Harkless Street, Syracuse, in the area of Bowser Road, which has left Anna Svensson, 41, Sweden, in serious condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Syracuse Police report around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Turkey Creek Fire Territory Fire Department and EMS, along with Syracuse Police were called to a personal injury accident involving a pedestrian being struck.

When emergency personnel arrived, it was determined Svensson was hit by a vehicle that had left the scene.

Svensson received serious injuries to her head, chest and extremities. She was initially taken to IU Health-Goshen and later to Parkview Hospital.

Witnesses were able to give police a description of the vehicle, which left the scene and police later located the vehicle and driver.

Hullinger was arrested and transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash. A blood draw was done to be tested for alcohol. Police are awaiting toxicology tests for further chargers.

The case remains under investigation by the Syracuse Police Department and the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office. Syracuse Police were assisted in the initial investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. Team.

The charges are an accusation of a crime and all suspects are considered innocent until convicted in a court of law.
