BOW Approves Market Street Grant Contract

At the Warsaw Board of Works meeting on Friday, Sept. 5, the BOW took the first step towards starting the Market Street Project.

City Planner Jeremy Skinner presented the board with an INDOT contract that would secure funding to begin the engineering phase, which would hopefully begin before year end.

Several street closures were approved. Canal Street will be closed between parking lot entrances from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 for the Patriot Day Ceremony. Canal Street will also be closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 for the annual Family Safety Day. Finally, the Warsaw Fire Department wil close down Market Street from Lake Street to Indiana Street and Buffalo Street from Center Street to Jefferson Street from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m on Sunday, Sept. 15. Fire Fighters will be conducting a training exercise during this time.

Paula Bowman came before the board to announce a mini-music festival. “Extravabandza,” a full day of live music, is to be held on Oct. 11 in the City Hall parking lot.

The board approved a request by Warsaw Police Department to authorize an invoice modification for WPD’s site improvement project. G&G Hauling and Excavating originally quoted $52,595.52 for the phase I of the project, but unforeseen pavement conditions resulted in an increase of $24,537.

Standard contracts with Indiana-American Water and NIPSCO to provide utilities at the new technology park at Polk Drive were approved. Both contracts are reimbursable and were approved by the Redevelopment Commission.

A change order for sewer work at High Street and a pay application for work on the Huron Street stormwater system was approved. As was Kosciusko County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau’s contract to advertise in the 2015 Visitor Guide. The board approved a contract to post the Municipal Code online.

A concern citizen came before the board to request that the city attorney review the city’s noise ordinance to see if there is a conflict with the state’s statute on fireworks. Mayor Joe Thallemer advised the ordinance would be reviewed.

Additionally, all human resources requests for new hires and travel requests were approved.
