Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that has seriously injured a Claypool woman.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies say 34-year-old Alana L. Gonzales was airlifted after the accident that happened at 7:49 p.m. Wednesday. The investigation found that Gonzales was eastbound on CR 900 South near Beaver Dam Lake, traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road and struck a utility pole before entering back on the road.
Gonzales attempted to correct the vehicle, but ultimately overcorrected and struck a tree head-on.
Michael Powell was at home when he heard the crash and came out to assist Gonzales, who sustained abdominal, pelvic and internal injuries. She was airlifted by Samaritan to a Fort Wayne hospital and is today listed in serious condition.
Toxicology tests are pending.
