UPDATE: Whitley County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement at approximately 8:50 p.m. that the suspect, Anthony McClellan, is now in police custody.
McClellan was wanted on unrelated charges out of Noble County for possession of methamphetamine, theft / receiving stolen property, domestic battery, driving while suspended, motorcycle license warrant and operating without financial responsibility.
BREAKING: Whitley County Sheriff’s Department has released an alert to residents to avoid SR 109 and CR 700 North due to a police emergency situation. They are also warning residents in that area to “stay indoors” until further notice.
Scanner traffic indicates police and Indiana Conservation Officers are using K-9s to track a male subject in the north shore area of Big Lake. The subject is wearing a green shirt, white hat, blue jeans and black and white shoes. Shots were fired in the area of Lakeshore Drive.
Indiana State Police were reportedly dispatched to a battery just outside of Albion involving a male and female. The male subject reportedly left the residence and was spotted by a state trooper who attempted to make a traffic stop. While awaiting back-up, police state the subject fled west on Lakeshore Drive, a dead end. The male subject then allegedly attempted to run over the trooper, who then fired his service weapon, missing the suspect who then fled uninjured from police on foot. Police note that a perimeter has been set up with air surveillance and canine search teams.
Police say they will begin searching door to door for the subject in the area along Lakeshore Drive.
If anyone sees the suspect, they are urged to call 911.
