NIPSCO is also reporting a large number of outages due to severe weather that crossed northern Indiana. As of 5:30 a.m. CT, approximately 75,000 NIPSCO users are currently without power. During the peak of outages, NIPSCO reported up to 118,000 users without power as a result of the storm.
According to NIPSCO Spokesperson Nick Meyer, it is uncertain when power will be restored at this time as the company is currently working to repair numerous downed power lines. Meyer noted that a total of 580 downed power wires have been reported thus far as well as 113 broken power poles. These numbers, he noted, are likely to rise as more damages are discovered throughout the day.
Meyer noted that it will likely not be until much later today into the afternoon that the company has a full sense of what power restoration will look like.
“When you compare this storm with other storms over the years, right now we are at about 75,000 customers total and that represents about 2,500 individual cases of damages. Just to make one of those repairs takes some time. The south end of Warsaw is the biggest area effected and we are still collecting information. We are seeing a lot of broken poles and a lot of wires down,” stated Meyer.
